Silver jewelry:
To keep your silver from tarnishing, keep your jewellery away from liquids and creams such as perfume, suncream, hand sanitiser and harsh chemicals.
Keep your jewellery away from water; Showering with sterling silver jewellery won't necessarily harm the metal. However, silver is a natural metal and therefore reacts with certain things. The water can oxidise the silver, meaning it is likely to tarnish and will therefore start to darken. remove when swimming or showering.
Store your jewellery in a soft cloth after removing it. Keep separately from other items of jewellery and humid air when possible.
Every jewelry piece I make has a layer of Rhodium or is gold plated. Which means it won't tarnish quickly. But after years the layer might have worn off.
If your piece is starting to tarnish:
Use a jewelry cloth and rub the piece clean, you'll see the cloth turning darker wich means the dirt is coming off. Or jewelry cleaning products. (Do not put jewelry with pearls in such products as it can harm your pearls)
You can always send or bring it to me for a new layer of rhodium or gold plating them again.
Pearls:
To preserve your pearls' radiance, avoid letting them come into contact with cosmetics, hair spray, or perfume. Always put on your jewelry as a final touch, after applying make-up and styling hair.
No contact with water:
When pearls get wet, the moisture can damage both the thread and the pearl itself. As the thread begins to stretch and lengthen, the pearls lose their shape. Furthermore, as the thread runs through the pearl, water can also cause internal damage, leading to the breakdown of the pearl's internal composition.
Avoid heat:
When we refer to ‘dry heat’ we mean hairdryers, curling tongs, or hair straighteners - anything that creates heat. So, ensure you style your hair before you put your pearls on, regardless of the pieces you’re wearing.
After each wear:
Wiping the pearls with a damp, soft cloth after you wear them will ensure that they remain free of harmful build-up of compounds that may damage the nacre of your pearls. Always keep your pearls separated from hard jewelry items such as rings or bracelets to prevent them from being scratched. Pearls are best kept in a soft-cloth pouch or a soft-lined jewelry box. Never store your pearls in an airtight environment such a a zip lock bag. Pearls are organic and do contain trace amounts of water. Storing them in an airtight environment will cause them to become brittle and damage the luster.
With pearl necklaces, it’s essential that they’re stored flat, rather than hanging alongside your other pieces. This is because the string can be weakened and over time damage the necklace.
